Construction Materials Testing

Hands.jpg (21527 bytes)With an eye on your best interests, HSA maintains multifaceted modern materials testing laboratories. We specialize in testing and analysis of the properties and performance behavior of soils and mechanical, hydraulic and physical testing of all forms of materials used in the construction and development industries.

We Stress Accountability

Our CMEC- and ACI-accredited laboratories support a diversified private and public sector customer base with differing needs and demands. Analyses are conducted in conformance with applicable standards and specifications, and they are verified through a rigorous quality assurance program. Additionally, every HSA lab technician is trained and tested in the areas of health and safety, with a knowledge of standardized test methods and calibration of testing equipment. Certifications and training status are maintained on each technician.

HSA has provided all Geotechnical and CMT Services to the 5,600-acre, 15-year Del Webb Sun City-Hilton Head development.

All test results are reviewed and approved by our Laboratory Manager, and then the appropriate Project Manager, prior to acceptance. All results are traceable to the technician who performs the analysis. Calibration records are maintained for the required instrumentation and are conducted by independent sources, in accordance with the National Institute of Standards and Technology. Specific test procedures are performed in accordance with AASHTO, ACI, ASTM, EPA and FDOT standards.

You can expect rapid, individualized response and defensible, accurate results when contracting for geotechnical engineering, geological or hydrogeological services and/or construction materials testing.

HSA routinely evaluates over 1,000 soil and concrete samples per month.

Dedicated to Technical Excellence

HSA works as part of your construction team to keep your project on track. Our firm brings wide-ranging experience in materials engineering evaluation, testing and inspection to every project. Our engineers and technicians respond to your needs in the areas of soils, concrete and asphalt, and they will apply their knowledge of regional geology and construction materials and processes to help you select appropriate materials and methods to complete your project.

Soils - After carefully reviewing your plans and specifications, we provide you with economically sound engineering recommendations. Our geotechnical engineers and technicians monitor grading, site utility and subgrade tasks by conducting appropriate tests to confirm material acceptability and compaction.

By conducting on-site tests and monitoring, we can analyze the suitability of soils for structural fill, determine the need for moisture adjustment, suggest alterations in construction equipment and procedures, evaluate the need for drainage, undercutting, stabilization or geosynthetics for solution of problem surface soils and provide an overview of earth grading activities.

Concrete - Our concrete services include complete inspection of concrete batching equipment, trucks and curing procedures. We develop mix designs and verify compliance with recommended American Concrete Institute (ACI) and American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) procedures and specifications.

Sheen.jpg (19948 bytes)Our services also include sampling concrete for air content, slump, temperature and unit weight; making cylinders for compressive strength tests; evaluating and providing recommendations for special materials (such as grouts and lightweight concretes); observing concrete placement and testing the hardened end product; and evaluating and recommending repairs, procedures and materials.

Asphaltic Concrete - Our asphaltic concrete testing services are designed to ensure that your asphalt pavement system is constructed to perform as intended. We provide asphalt mix designs and verifications, batch plant control to assess aggregate gradation, asphalt content, bulk specific gravity, stability and flow, and field quality control to determine and monitor temperature, lift thickness and compaction through verified core samples, as well as verification of aggregate gradation, asphalt content, bulk specific gravity, stability and flow.

We are prepared to make pavement design recommendations based on field and laboratory test results, soil strength and moisture data, and the types and volume of traffic expected. Although construction materials testing represents only a small fraction of the total investment in your project, you could otherwise be faced with high, unbudgeted costs for remedial action if these requirements are not properly met. Unanticipated remediation efforts also disrupt project schedules. HSA offers you experienced professionals who will help avoid or minimize construction oversights and delays.
