boatoil.jpg (13293 bytes)As site complexity grows, knowledge and experience become more central to your remedial success story. At the core of any flourishing remedial design is a fundamental understanding of the contaminants and the nature of the subsurface impacted by its presence. Our multidisciplined team of professionals specialize in chemical and biological kinetics, contaminant fate and transport, toxicology and chemical engineering. Known as an "intellectual" consulting firm, scholarship has been a hallmark of HSA’s reputation. Yet, our notable success can be traced to our common-sense approach to complicated environmental conditions. We strive for simplicity and reliability in our remedial system designs, exploiting natural geologic conditions within the design of the selected remedy.

Our goal is to provide complete solutions to contaminant impacts. We specialize in both remedial design and implementation, including engineering, equipment selection and systems integration and operation, with an eye toward innovative concepts that fulfill your objectives and those of the project by maintaining the appropriate perspective on cost, feasibility of implementation and cleanup goals.

The State of Florida chose HSA as the Number One firm among 36 national companies to conduct site assessment and remediation on their behalf.

Regulatory coordination and negotiation are integral to the remedial process. On numerous occasions, HSA’s reputation as an industry leader in innovative remedial techniques has attracted the attention of regulatory agencies. Our clients often receive expedient reviews and regulatory approvals, as well as ongoing flexibility to adjust system components and approaches without regulatory delays. We are experienced in working with existing designs or previously constructed systems as well. In many instances we can assist clients by evaluating their current remedial systems and suggesting methods to improve efficiency and lower costs.

Gargage.jpg (23844 bytes)We provide complete risk management, engineering, design, construction, operation and maintenance support for all types of site remedial systems.Once site data are collected, our scientists analyze the information using their understanding of the nature and extent of the contamination, migration pathways and physical and chemical properties to determine alternatives for site restoration. We use contemporary statistical techniques to define realistically the concentration and volume of contaminants at a site, so that an understanding of how these contaminants may be transported to human and environmental receptors can be developed. Key to the process is the quantification of the level of uncertainty in the estimates of risk and potential costs associated with the uncertainty. Included in the evaluation are geological, geotechnical, hydrological and other environmental data, which are compiled to allow you to determine the restoration alternative that will meet both your corporate and regulatory goals. We believe that use of a risk-based cleanup approach is one of the most practical means of ensuring affordable cleanup within an acceptable regulatory framework. Through risk-based cleanup, we have achieved regulatory closure by establishing more realistic and acceptable remedial action levels resulting in substantial reductions in remediation costs.

The State of Florida chose HSA as the Number One firm among 36 national companies to conduct site assessment and remediation on their behalf.

Most firms use an "inside out"approach to assessment and remediation in which investigatory tasks begin in the heaviest areas of impact. Our approach is "outside in." We determine the probable distribution of contaminants across the site based on available data, developing cleanup strategies based on the spatial distribution of the contaminants and on the calculated risks. This approach is more effective than remedial site investigations that simply focus on "hot spots," which can skew findings and lead to regulatory "over management" and excessive cleanup costs.

We work closely with our geoscientists to provide a smooth transition from the contamination assessment phase to the remedial investigation and risk assessment phases where engineering design parameters must be established. Our engineers are skilled in all the requisite disciplines for the design of in situ and ex situ soil and groundwater treatment and containment systems. Our professionals prepare the remedial design and engineering criteria and then work closely with remediation contractors to prepare the final construction specifications.

HSA professionals have published over 200 articles regarding site assessment and remediation in the past five years.

Concurrent with the design process, HSA considers the "life cycle" of a project and builds in operating/treatment systems that cost less with time as the contaminant concentrations diminish. We design treatment systems that are reliable, durable and easy to operate, keeping operation and maintenance costs in check over the life of the system.

It remains our goal to manage successfully uncertainty and encourage the selection of realistic cleanup goals. We seek to streamline remedial investigations to accelerate a cleanup. This approach enables us to produce results by meeting regulatory requirements and reducing cleanup costs.

Our goal is simple: make remediation effective, efficient and affordable.
